Molly Rocketcoil

(from TaleSpace)

"She's seen some... stuff. Maybe too much stuff. But she's a genuine sweetheart. And she could pilot a toaster through a quasar."

Molly Rocketcoil, 37, is the current pilot of the Zodiac, a Gooney Bird class frieghter, working under Captain Teddie Honeywhiskers.

She is a veteran of the Great War, serving as a foot soldier. During her service, she was lost behind enemy lines and declared MIA when the front shifted. Her platoon survived the conflict, however, but not without heavy losses. When armistice was declared, she was among the many survivors of the war to voluntarily stand down from her post in the military and declare herself a pacifist.

After the war, she struggled for a short time to reintegrate into society until she discovered her love of flying. Taking classes to become a commercial pilot, she found that she was a natural and that the demands of spaceflight took her mind away from her nightmares and proved very therapeutic.

Upon graduation, she began work piloting small shipping craft for the Mienyang family. This stint did not last long, however, as her ship was attacked by Don Karnage and the Iron Vulture and went missing.

Her whereabouts between that time and present are not currently known. It is said that she escaped from Don Karnage's pirates without incurring their pursuit by using skills she had learned while behind enemy lines in the war. At some point in its history, she became pilot of the Zodiac. The crew that she signed on with is unidentified and their whereabouts unknown. Apparently, upon selling the ship before moving on, they were unaware that Molly had fallen asleep in an emergency suit compartment on the bridge. It is said that when Teddy Honeywhiskers first acquired the ship, he found her sleeping in that compartment and hired her on the spot as pilot.

She has no previous connections with the other crew members, besides having briefly worked for Darla Mienyang's parents after the war.

Her demeanor is almost entirely agreeable. She uses acquiescence to disarm every social conflict, though she won't lie by agreeing. However she's slow going, sleepy and groggy, and saves up her energy for short bursts of cheerfulness or action when absolutely needed. Also, she's terrible at talking. It takes her a long time to compose her words well enough to avoid stuttering or saying the wrong thing. But, in a pinch or a sticky situation, she knows what to do to muscle or sneak her way out of it, and to help her crew mates in the process. She will take such actions without explaining herself much of the time because words can be hard for her, but also because talking is a way of letting the enemy know where you are. When she remembers that she's part of a team, she signals them with the tip of her tail. However, most of the time she'd rather be alone, researching different spacecraft designs, star systems, or just flying her ship. She's not much for keeping uniform or decorum, but she follows orders from her captain immediately without complaint (unless they are unethical orders). And she has a crush on Don Karnage's voice, but only his voice.
